Cement-Bond Logs and Borehole Integrity, DPS Winter Quarterly Meeting, 11th December 2025

Dear DPS Member, The next DPS meeting, featuring two presenters, is on December 11th 2025 (Thursday). We meet at our usual venue at Kivi Den Haag (Prinsessegracht 23, 2514 AP Den Haag) in the Schepperzaal on the first floor. Pre-meeting coffee is served at 15:30h and talks commence at 16:00h. There will be a social hour at KIVI after the meeting. Attendance is free of charge.

Talk 1

Title: Optimizing Well Abandonment: Insights on Formation Creep, Barrier Integrity, and Cost Savings

Speaker: Alhadi Zahmuwl, SLB

Abstract: The presentation will cover a couple of field case studies (Gyda and Schooner fields) where formation creep was utilized to optimize abandonment design. If time permits, we can dual-barrier evaluation will also be addressed, including through-tubing cement evaluation, and how this supports barrier verification during P&A operations.

Bio: Alhadi Zahmuwl is a Well Integrity Domain Champion at SLB, specializing in cased hole wireline logging, well integrity diagnostics, and data interpretation. With more than 20 years of experience in production logging, cement evaluation, well integrity assessment, well interventions, and plug & abandonment (P&A) operations, he supports global projects by promoting advanced technologies and integrated subsurface solutions to improve well performance and reduce abandonment risk. He  has contributed to major P&A campaigns, including Brent Charlie and DNO’s Schooner fields, and has authored or co-authored several technical papers on barrier evaluation.

Talk 2

Title: Cement bond logs and evidence for Zechstein Sealing Capacity (Marten Bron, Wintershall)

Bio: Marten Bron holds an MSc in Structural Geology from Utrecht University and has over 35 years of international experience as a Petrophysicist. His career has included roles at Placid, Occidental, TransCanada, Clyde Petroleum/Wintershall, SGS Horizon, and Wintershall. Marten has served as the principal Petrophysicist on various exploration and development projects, including certification endeavours, major equity redetermination exercises in Norway, and multiple tight gas projects worldwide. Currently, he leads the Petrophysics and Operations Geology disciplines, supporting the Wintershall drilling department during their abandonment campaign.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
